Silverwolfe South is dedicated to the ball of floof known as the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. We are located in the southeastern United States, in beautiful Greenville, South Carolina. We invite anyone to come meet our awesome Wheatens and thoughtfully consider bringing one into their own family.
When we initially discovered this breed we were excited about their size and joyful disposition, but dismayed at all the reports of hyperactivity, untrainability, and tireless energy. Wheatens are a wonderful breed of dog, but can be high energy at times (zoomies happen) and difficult to control. However, if well trained and properly socialized, a Wheaten Terrier can be a lovable family member that is generally relaxed in the home and playful when appropriate. They always want to be near their people and can suffer from separation anxiety and even depression if left alone too much. Read more about their trainability here.
Bathed and beautiful!

We were quite fortunate to find breeders who kept the puppies' full tails intact, so our breed dogs have full, fluffy tails that wag excitedly for anyone. You can read more about our opinions on tail docking here. In short, we cannot provide a puppy with a docked tail.
It is not always apparent in young puppies what their personalities will be. There are sometimes traits that can be seen, but a lot of their personality evolves to fit their family.
If you are active and outdoorsy, your Wheaten will be a great companion. If you are an indoors type and enjoy your relaxing time, your Wheaten will be on your lap demanding affection and might be in your face if you are not providing it. Your Wheaten will ensure that your TV, phone, or book is not nearly as important as petting, brushing, and loving them.
Our first Wheaten fit perfectly into our family’s energy level with a little outside playtime followed by much couch loafing afterwards. He loves to snuggle, loves to be petted, loves to be brushed, and even mostly likes getting a bath. He is AKC registered as Silverwolfe Plays Dice With the Cosmos. We call him Cosmo.
Our second Wheaten has a bouncier personality and a wonderfully soft, very thick and curly coat. She loves to play with toys in the house and chase Cosmo in the yard. She adores splashing in water and will jump into any water at any opportunity. She has the playfully silly name Silverwolfe Ripley Nukes It From Orbit To Be Sure. We call her Ripley, a name that we feel suits her bold and fearless nature.

If you love the Wheaten greetin', rest assured that our pups will happily greet you this way whether you’ve been gone 3 days, 3 hours, or 3 minutes. It is an inherent trait of this breed to love their people devoutly and without restraint, which results in unbridled excitement when you walk in the door. They also love every person they've ever met and every one they haven't. Wheatens can be trained to not jump onto people in the Wheaten greetin' manner, but they will always have the urge to do so.
With patience, and lots of pork chop bites, we trained Cosmo to sit when we walk in the door instead of giving us the Wheaten greetin’. Cosmo now gives a few bounces, then sits when we enter our home. He seems to have accepted that this is the fastest route to attention and affection. Ripley, on the other hand, decided that jumping onto Cosmo instead of people was her best bet, so most of the time, that's what she does. We decided this was close enough. However, they will both resort to Wheaten greetin' if any of us have been away for an extended period of time.

Wheatens are incredibly soft, very fluffy, warmly affectionate, and always playful. They truly can be a wonderful treasure for your family. They also can be the most destructive element ever brought into your home if they are not properly trained and given attention and affection. An addition of a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, or any pet of any kind, should be a very carefully and thoughtfully considered decision. Be sure to read our real truth page before making your decision.
Wheaten Terriers don't just ask for attention, they require it. They do not do well left alone for many hours at a time. They will enjoy the company of other dogs, and sometimes even cats, but they should never be left to entertain themselves for long periods of time on a daily basis.

We will only have puppies once or twice a year, as this is a very exhausting undertaking. Our puppies all receive Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), lots of affection, attention, and early training with potty time, stair navigation, and mental and physical stimulation toys.
